چکیده

We investigate inflationary scenarios driven by a class of potentials which are similar in form to those that arise in certain minimal supersymmetric extensions of the standard model. We find that these potentials allow a brief period of departure from inflation sandwiched between two stages of slow roll inflation. We show that such a background behavior leads to a step like feature in the scalar power spectrum. We set the scales such that the drop in the power spectrum occurs at a length scale that corresponds to the Hubble radius today—a feature that seems necessary to explain the lower power observed in the quadrupole moment of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropies. We perform a Markov Chain Monte Carlo analysis to determine the values of the model parameters that provide the best fit to the recent WMAP 5-year data for the CMB angular power spectrum. We find that an inflationary spectrum with a suppression of power at large scales that we obtain leads to a much better fit (with just one extra parameter, χ2eff improves by 6.62) of the observed data when compared to the best fit reference ΛCDM model with a featureless, power law, primordial spectrum. The tensor-to-scalar ratio in punctuated inflation

Scalar spectra which exhibit a sharp drop in power at length scales corresponding to the Hubble radius today are known to lead to a better fit of the observed Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropies, when compared to the conventional, featureless, power law spectrum. Recently, we have shown that scalar spectra with lower power on large scales naturally occur in punctuated inflation, i.e....

Supergravity Modification of D-term Hybrid Inflation: Solving the Cosmic String and Spectral Index Problems via a Right-Handed Sneutrino

Supergravity corrections due to the energy density of a right-handed sneutrino can generate a negative mass squared for the inflaton, flattening the inflaton potential and reducing the spectral index and inflaton energy density. For the case of D-term hybrid inflation, we show that the spectral index can be lowered from the conventional value n = 0.98 to a value within the range allowed by the ...

Inflationary scenario based on a renormalizable model of conformal gravity is proposed and primordial spectrum is derived. The sharp fall off of the angular power spectra at low multipoles in the COBE and WMAP observations are explained by a dynamical scale of quantum gravity. At this scale, the universe would make a sharp transition from the quantum spacetime with conformal invariance to the c...

A number of studies of WMAP-7 have highlighted that the power at the low multipoles in CMB power spectrum are lower than their theoretically predicted values. Angular correlation between the orientations of these low multipoles have also been discovered. While these observations may have cosmological ramification, it is important to investigate possible observational artifacts that can mimic th...
